[12122013] What Is The Genotype Of The Father Dog?
Posted on Thursday, December 12, 2013 at 11:33 PM

Number of puppies: 12
Mother's Phenotype: Yellow Lab
# of Chocolate Labs: 5 (Visible on the left picture)*
# of Black Labs: 7 (Some visible, some hidden)
# of Yellow Labs: 0 *
Father's Phenotype?

*Note that I have confirmed with Mr. Bartlett that these labs were chocolate, not yellow as the lighting suggests.

Remember this..

  • Note that the mother has yellow fur, a brown nose and brown lips & eye rims. Mother is genotype eebb.
  • She has no yellow labs, which means that her chocolate labs are either Eebb or EEbb.
  • The black labs are either EeBB, EEBB, EeBb or EEBb

  • Father cannot be a yellow lab, otherwise there would be yellow labs (in which there are none).
  • If the father was a chocolate lab:
P: eebb x Eebb
F1:
P: eebb x EEbb
F1:

  • If the father was a black lab:
P: eebb x EeBB
F1:

P: eebb x EEBB
F1:

P: eebb x EeBb
F1:

P: eebb x EEBbb
F1:

Therefore the father's phenotype is a black lab with a genotype of EEbb
